Beginning Horseback Riding Lessons in
North San Diego
The Schooling Family is Scott, Catherine and our two children. To this date our kids do not know what life is like without a horse. They are so lucky. Our horses are Belle and Lily and Whiskers. Belle joined our family in 2003. She was a welcomed addition for Catherine to get back into horses after having 2 beautiful children. Lily was born at our home in 2004. Then Whiskers joined us for our Summer Camp in 2009. We are fortunate enough to have him permanently. We are so fortunate to have all of them.
Catherine spent most of her childhood with horses. Our family got our first horse at the age of 7. Just a year or two later, I was showing horses and becoming more and more involved. When I was 10 years old, I got my own horse. Her name was Ny. We became champions several times over and at one point we were ranked #2 in the World for Pole Bending with the AJQHA in 1986. She gave me everything she had and I am truly blessed to have had her in my life.
While I was growing up my family got more and more into horses. We showed horses, raised horses and even owned a few race horses. Each horse brought a set of lessons that made us become better and better horse people. My Mom was the breeder and nurse. My Dad was the Horse Racing enthusiast and owner. My sister was the trainer and I was the competitive rider. The only time I was "out of horses" was after Ny passed away. I was so distraught. After a few months, my Mom got me back into horses but my heart was only 1/2 way into it. It wasn't until 2003, that I found another horse that I "clicked" with. It was Belle.
Belle was originally purchased to be trained and then sold again. It wasn't long after Belle joined us that we went on a trail ride. We went out on an all day trail ride up in Norco Riverbed with my sister and brother-in-law. We crossed a river, went up and down hills and so much more. It was a fantastic day. As we were riding down the road I realized she was everything I was looking for. We got back to the trailer and Belle put her head on my shoulder. That drove me to tears because that was exactly what Ny had done. No other horse have every put their heads on my shoulder. Just Ny and Belle. Belle has a forever home.
My experience is with riding western. Take a look at what I've done: .
Our goal is to give riders a memorable experience with good basic skills that will give them a start to a very long life in the horse world. Belle is our wonderful horse. She is a character. Belle became a Schooling in 2003. My sister Sue, found Belle in Yorba Linda, CA. She was the only horse on the property and was treated like royalty. She was allowed to hang her head inside the kid's bedroom window. Belle was just another person. Belle came home to us and we realized she had a back injury. She slipped on the cement and really hurt herself. We gave her lots of TLC and a good Chiropractor (yes, horses have their own chiropractors). Belle joined us when Madi was just a few months old . Madi climbed all over Belle. Belle never moved. I took her out on trail rides and had a wonderful time. She is the best trail horse ever! After 30+ years of riding, I finally found the perfect trail horse. In 2006, Madi started showing Belle in leadline events. They look stunning together. They have 6 Blue Ribbons for their efforts.

Lily is our baby! She was born here and hasn't really known any other home except ours. (Lily is a gray horse. She was born brownish. Gray horses get lighter as they get older.) My Mom purchased Lily's mother from Canada. There were thousands of horses "Out Of Work" due to the drug industries decline in a certain drug. So, many horses were being sent to slaughter houses. Lily's mom, Rainy came to live with us. She was about 4 months pregnant with Lily. Rainy was a spectacular horse. Loving, willing, and just a pleasant horse to be around. Rainy gave birth to Lily on April 26, 2004. Scott set up web cameras and we were doing all sorts of checking so we can catch the birth but Rainy faked everyone out and had her when we weren't looking. Scott found her at 5am. A very healthy Lily greeted her first human. Since, Lily has been our baby. Belle sorted of adopted her as her own. About a year after Lily was born her mother, Rainy died. It was heartbreaking to all of us. We are so fortunate that Lily is as close to a duplicate copy to Rainy as possible. She is loving, willing, talented, curious and has so much going for her. Lily has been trained but needs more work. She spent 6 months at "Camp" (training facility) and she did marvelous. We are going to spend our summer gaining experience so she can have a more active roll in the camp for next year. Lily is wonderful around our kids. Every since she was born she has been around kids and actually is very careful. Lily will be used for leading and grooming. She isn't quite ready to be a part of the riding camp. Oh...before I forget. Make sure you close the gate with the chain. Lily will open it. She is very talented. She can open gates. Lily's nickname is Houdini. Whiskers is very special as he does tricks. He will let you sit on him while he is laying down. The very best trick is his smile. Take a look at his smile. Isn't the best smile in the whole world! He will show you his grin at any time you have horse cookies or carrots to offer. Here is a challenge for your....Can You Make Whisker's Smile? We are totally in love with him. I am sure he will capture your heart too!

Whiskers
Whiskers is one of our riders favorites. He was going to spend the summer of 2009 with us. We are so fortunate that he was able to become a permanent part of our home. He has a personality that is hard to forget. He is a huge hit at the camps. He is kind and sweet and absolutely loves kids. When we picked up him up he went right to our kids. The kids gave him carrots and he suddenly became their best friend.
